ilo ilo 爸妈不在家。

I am a fan of radio 100.3. I listened to their station almost every weekday morning. I also participated in their games and won some prizes. I like how they chat wittily and disturb each other. Lol! There's also parts where they teach chinese 成语 to children, tell parents how to communicate with kids. I like how they make advertisements interesting and informative like the yakult ad they do every morning.

At a certain point of time, I actually thought of being a DJ myself. I reckon that I do not have such enough talents for it. What I have is only a decent voice.

Anyway, back to the topic. The DJ 黄文宏 participated in the production of this SG movie Ilo Ilo. It was about a domestic helper who came to a Singaporean family from the Philippines. The story took place around the 80s. I find it very close to heart. Something like what I went through. It's almost scarily similar.

This is also the first movie that was awarded the 66th Cannes Film Festival  Camera d’Or . It was reported that people stood and clap for 15 minutes to praise the cast after the movie was showed in Cannes. Well that's something. Foreigners who spoke a different language relied on the subtitles and the wonderful acting skills and really appreciated the movie!

I purposely picked a weekday afternoon to watch this show so that I can watch in a quieter theater. Unfortunately, there was a big crowd of aunties and uncles. They went in a group. At least 10 of them. They were seated at the top centre of the theater and was chatting and discussing the plot ALL THE TIME! Up till the point where someone "Shhh" them. But still.. They continued chatting... Thinking that they are at their own house. Etiquette!

I felt that the movie was great! The acting skills of Yeo Yann Yann and Angeli Bayani was superb! They fully demonstrate the difficulties that they were facing. The script was well-written. Some humour or terms are very local. The plot was interesting although quite predictable for me. I'm not expecting it to be a Da Vincci Code or something. Just an enjoyable movie that brings tears and laughter.

I am looking forward to watch it again with my mum! She does not frequent the cinema but she's a listener of Radio 100.3. She's also expressed interest in this movie. So yeah!
